…as Gov Eno swear in 31 Local Government Council Chairmen
Na plenty joy and celebration burst for Ikono Local Government Area as Governor Umo Eno on Monday, 7th October 2024, swear in Rt. Hon. Engr. Oto-Obong Okon Essien, the first female elected council chairman for Ikono LGA. Members of PDP, traditional rulers, and plenty people from different political parties gather to witness the event.
Gov Eno swear in the 31 council chairmen and their deputies for Government House banquet hall, Uyo, and congratulate dem for their victory. Him talk say the people get high hopes from dem, and advise dem make dem run government wey go carry everybody along. Him also thank Akwa Ibom State Independent Electoral Commission (AKISIEC) for the free and fair election wey dem conduct.
Gov Eno still yarn say the council chairmen go soon get financial autonomy, but dem must work together with the state government to make sure say everything dey balanced, especially for how dem go pay teachers.
He remind dem say, “Una be part of the state government machinery, so make una align una policy and actions with the ARISE Agenda. Plus, una be the chief security officers for una area, make sure peace dey for una councils.”
After she swear in, Rt. Hon. Oto-Obong Okon Essien, the new Ikono council chairman, go pay homage to the Paramount Ruler, Edidem Nana Etim Itang. She promise say she go run a government wey go carry everybody along and develop the rural areas, based on Gov Eno ARISE Agenda. She thank the governor for giving women chance for government and promise to work well with all the stakeholders to develop Ikono.
She also appreciate the people of Ikono and PDP stakeholders for voting her into office, and she promise to work closely with the Paramount Ruler and other people wey get influence for the area.
The Paramount Ruler, Edidem Etim Itang, thank the new council chairman for honouring him and pray for her success as she dey enter office.
For the reception wey dem do for her papa compound for Ukpom Ikot Abia Udo Village, the chairman continue to thank God, Gov Umo Eno, and the people of Ikono for voting her. She promise to make sure her time for office go bring plenty development and positive change.
Plenty big people for PDP, including former National Assembly members, religious leaders, and other top politicians, send goodwill messages to support the new council chairman.
