In a heartening display of support for women in agriculture, twenty dedicated women farmers in Akwa Ibom State have found new hope through the generous assistance of the Renewed Hope Initiative Women Agricultural Support Programme. Spearheaded by the
Akwa Ibom State’s First Lady, Pastor Patience Umo Eno, this initiative saw each beneficiary receiving a significant boost of five hundred thousand naira to further their farming endeavors.
With a total sum of ten million naira disbursed across the state, the program aims to not only empower these women but also enhance food security and encourage their expansion into various agricultural activities such as Cassava farming, poultry, and animal husbandry. Pastor Patience Eno, the RHI Coordinator, emphasized the vital role that women play in ensuring sustainable food production and affordability, praising Senator Oluremi Tinubu for championing the welfare of female farmers nationwide.
During the cheque presentation ceremony at Government House Uyo, Pastor Patience Eno highlighted the importance of this support in enabling the recipients to grow their businesses and diversify their agricultural outputs. Mrs. Margaret Edem, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Welfare, acknowledged the common challenges faced by women in agriculture and lauded the efforts of Senator Oluremi Tinubu in bridging the gap by offering practical assistance to rural female farmers.
Grateful for this timely intervention, the beneficiaries expressed their appreciation for the program, emphasizing their commitment to utilizing the funds towards expanding and improving their agricultural enterprises. Despite any political differences, the women farmers commended the initiative for its inclusive approach and expressed their readiness to make the most of this support to strengthen their livelihoods and contribute to the agricultural sector’s growth in the region.
They also thanked the farmer friendly Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno for the various agricultural interventions for farmers in rural communities and his wife Pastor Patience Eno, for facilitating the release of the funds to them, assuring that food will be available, affordable and accessible in Akwa Ibom State.
