Gunmen Abduct Naval Operative And Seven Others In The State.

Ibaka, Akwa Ibom State – In a distressing incident, eight individuals, including a naval operative, were abducted by gunmen on Monday night at Classic Point Hotel, a popular relaxation spot in Ibaka, Mbo Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State.

The police spokesperson in the state, Timfon John, confirmed the incident, highlighting the swift response by the Commissioner of Police, Waheed Ayilara, who personally led a team of operatives to the community to assess the situation.

“The Commissioner of Police has been briefed on the incident and we are doing everything within our power to ensure the safe return of the victims,” said Mr. John.

This abduction underscores a worrying trend of escalating kidnap-for-ransom cases in the state, which has historically been regarded as one of the most peaceful regions in the country. The recent surge in such incidents is causing considerable concern among residents and authorities alike.

The latest kidnapping comes on the heels of another alarming event where eighteen passengers and a driver were kidnapped while traveling from Uyo to Port Harcourt. This incident took place in Azumini, a boundary community between Abia and Akwa Ibom States, further highlighting the growing insecurity in the region.

Authorities are urging residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the police as efforts to secure the release of the abductees continue.
