In a collaborative effort to promote environmental sustainability, the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members serving in Eket Local Government Area, Akwa Ibom State had joined force with the Local Government authorities to plant trees at the Eket Unity Hall on Wednesday, October 30, 2024.
The initiative, which coincided with World Tree Planting Day 2024, was spearheaded by the Eket Local Government Chairman, Rt. Hon. Akaniyene Tommy, who was represented by the elegant Vice Chairman, Hon. Akpawan Inyang Okon.
In her speech, the Vice Chairman, Mrs Akpawan said that tree planting beautifies and promotes environmental sustainability and the adage that says, “Trees are the lungs of the Earth,” and this collaborative effort by the NYSC and Eket Local Government is a testament to their dedication to environmental conservation.
Accordingly, the Zonal Inspector (ZI), NYSC, Eket Local government Council, Lady Dorothy Ezekiel and the Principal administrator, Mr Edet who led the Corp members in the tree-planting exercise, emphasized the importance of trees in maintaining ecological balance.
