The Chairman of Eket Local Government Area, Mr. Akaninyene Tommey, alongside the Chairman of Uyo Capital City Development Authority (UCCDA), Hon. Anietie Eka, and the Akwa Ibom State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), ASP Timfon John, were honored with awards of recognition for their contributions to humanity during the 2024 Federated Chapel Week.
The awards were presented on Friday, 15th November 2024, during a symposium organized as part of the Chapel’s week-long activities. Themed
“A Conversation on Local Government Autonomy,”.
The event brought together key stakeholders from various sectors to deliberate on the subject of local government autonomy and its importance in driving development.
Mr. Tommey, who was represented by the Secretary, Eket Local Government Council, Pst. John Odungide, expressed his gratitude for the recognition, describing it as a great honor.
In his goodwill message, Tommey thanked the Federated Chapel for considering him worthy of the award and pledged continued collaboration with journalists across the state to foster further development.
ASP Timfon John, who also participated as a discussant, emphasized the importance of partnership with the police in achieving sustainable development for the state.
She thanked the Federated Chapel for the acknowledgment and encouraged journalists to adhere to the ethics of their profession in order to contribute meaningfully to societal progress.
The symposium was chaired by Rt. Hon. Mark Esset, the Member representing Uyo Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, and featured Hon. (Barr) Onofiok Luke as the keynote speaker. HRM Odidem Bassey Edet, the Paramount Ruler of Udung Uko LGA, served as the Father of the Day.
Other notable personalities included Hon. Itoro Columba, Barr. Ekemini Ukim, and Barr. Ini Ememobong, the Commissioner for Information, who was also a special guest.
The event was a significant platform for discussing local government issues and strengthening the bond between the government, police, and media in the quest for state development.
