Akipcon, a frontline Federal Government registered non-governmental, socio-economic, environmental, justice and human rights organization spearheading the movement for the realization of Clean, safe and sustainable environment of Akwa Ibom State communities and payment of compensation to victims of ravaging hydrocarbon pollution by oil and gas companies activities wishes to inform all guests invited to the public presentation and book launch of the organization’s project that the event has been postponed till further notice.
The book that was to be presented to the public and launched on the1st August, 2024 is titled: State Security Management, Hydrocabon pollution, Environment and implications on human rights in Nigeria is co-authored by Ufot A. Phenson-Ph.D and Emmanuel .E. Bassey, the President general and secretary general of Akwa oil producing community development network (AKIPCON), respectively.
The book said to be an outstanding material in the security, oil and gas industries is written to address the rampant insecurity, hydrocarbon pollution, environmental degradation, disruption and damages to sources of livelihood and human rights abuses unleashed on the people of Eket, Esit-eket, Onna, Ibeno, Eastern Obolo, Ikot-Abasi, Mkpat Enin, Mbo, Oron and other Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State by the harmful oil exploitation activities of multi-national and indigenous oil and gas companies operating in Akwa Ibom State in particular and Niger Delta Region in general.
In a joint release signed by the President General Ufot A. Phenson- Ph.D and secretary general Emmanuel .E. Bassey, the postponement is due to the looming national protest.
The postponement has also affected the inauguration of the organization’s State Executive council and the Local Government Coordinating committees in the thirty-one Local Government Areas of the State.
The duo regret the inconvenience caused the esteemed guests and the general public and call for their understanding.
A new date for the book presentation and launch as well as the inauguration shall be communicated in the near future.
