For Akwa Ibom, local government leadership don get new shape as Hon. Akaniyene Tommy, wey be Eket Local Government Chairman, don become Secretary of Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON) for the state.
Dem announce am during the first meeting wey Govnor Umo Eno get with the new chairmen for inside Government House, Uyo, on Monday, October 7, 2024.
Uyo Local Government Chairman, Dr. Uwemedimo Udo, don become as di ALGON Chairman, while Ikot Ekpene LG Chairman, Mr. Aniefiok Nkom, don become the Vice Chairman.
For the meeting, Govnor Eno tell the chairmen say make dem no forget to work together and promote peace for all the local governments. E congratulate dem for the election and advise make dem “build bridges of unity, no be walls of division.” E still talk say make dem forget party wahala and focus on better development.
Govnor Eno remind the chairmen say dem be the Chief Security Officers for their local government, so e make sense make dem dey live inside their area to sabi wetin dey worry their people. E talk say na their duty to come up with good plans wey go improve life for grassroots level.
As local governments don get autonomy now, Govnor Eno tell dem say e come with rights and responsibilities. E encourage dem to join hands to develop rural areas well well, no be to dey do things solo.
E still advise say, “governance for grassroots need better heart,” make dem no do winner-takes-all. The chairmen thank Govnor for the advice and promise say dem go fulfill their campaign promises to give better governance.
The meeting don mark the beginning of new leadership for local government for Akwa Ibom, as the new ALGON leaders ready to work for better unity and development under Govnor Eno.
